Into the Fray

Back when I was still taking my Alternative Printmaking class one of the assignments we were given was to find a quote, poem, or phrase that we really liked. Unfortunately our instructor did not make it clear that we had to do 3 separate quotes...so I ended up spending all of my time inking my first one...and then staying up till the crack of down the night before the assignment was due attempting to produce 2 more renders. My instructor really liked this one and wanted to hang it up around the school but all students know that really is code for you'll never get it back. So I told him to grade it and return it. XP

So this was my first time at calligraphy (I think that's what its called). It was a lot of fun and I do plan on doing more like this one in the future. This one is currently hanging up in my room though! ^^

The quote comes from a film called The Grey that details the tribulations an Alaskan drill crew face upon having their airplane crash in the Alaskan wilderness. John Ottway (played by Liam Neeson) is one of the drill company's security men, whose job is killing wolves that threaten the drill crew, quickly becomes the group's leader. The group is quick to learn that not only to they have to contend with a lack of food, warmth, and communication, but also with a pack of wolves. The movie is very intense and is a favorite of mine-not because its about wolves taking out humans, but because it is a story about finding that will to live again. Ottway, in the beginning, is ready to give up, but by the end of the film, he is ready to fight-for his right to live (for himself and for those who he lost), for the right to go down in death with all he has.

And this is way I love this quote. because it reminds me that things are going to get tough, they are going to make me feel defeated, but still I have to continue to fight for the things I value.
